Integrative structural study of the Kibuye-Gitarama-Gatumba area (West Rwanda): A contribution to reconstruct the Meso- and Neoproterozoic tectonic framework of the Karagwe-Ankole Belt

The geodynamic evolution of the Mesoproterozoic Karagwe-Ankole Belt, situated in Central Africa, is largely unconstrained and topic discussion. To overcome this knowledge gap, tectonic history Western Domain has been studied, focusing on bedding, foliations lineations, quartz vein generations from Kibuye-Gitarama-Gatumba area (West Rwanda). results our study reveal two fold generations, that are interpreted as consequence separate compressional deformation events. first generation (F1) consists regional-scale symmetrical folds, with a N30W to NS axial plane strike variable fold-cylindricity. second (F2) expressed by local small-scale folds generally steep plane, superposed regional structure. F2 planes varies over (N60W vs N20W), possibly linked buttressing effect rigid Gitarama batholith. Three categories were determined: early veins, strongly shortened or emplaced during F1 (A-category), bedding-parallel, boudinaged deformed pre- syn-F2 (B-category) undeformed, syn- post-F2 veins (C-category). Based geochronological data literature, major event can be connected Late Rodinia assembly Stenian-Tonian, while youngest tectono-metamorphic may represent influence Neoproterozoic Gondwana area.
